A Bit About Me

Welcome!  My name is Ginny Bartolone and I am a writer living in New York City with my husband and our two kitties, Viola and Tiber.

You can find more info about my professional life at GinnyBartolone.com.

I launched this blog in 2010 to explore my writing voice, and lo and behold, writing turned out to be a full-time calling. I am currently completing a book about my 2017 experience hiking the Camino de Santiago and have a collection of ongoing essay and blog projects in the works.

Below is my original “About Me” page from 2010, kept intact to honor my early writing days.

The Original

Well, here I am, starting my first blog.  Private at first, but perhaps someday I will let anyone interested look it over.  (Update from 5.15.12: I love how I wrote this back when I never thought I’d have the guts to share it!  So glad I did!)  Mainly, this is to stretch my writing muscles with the possibility of someone else giving feedback if I suddenly get that confident.

A bit about the title of this blog:  Sometime during college, my friends and I began using the expression “maybe there will be cupcakes!” every time we had to go somewhere unpleasant.  It’s pretty powerful.  Next time you have to go to well, say…a frustrating job, the DMV, or even the dentist, give it a try!  The potentiality of cupcakes being involved tends to make the whole  idea much more bearable.

Yet as life would have it, I began working at a popular cupcake chain in New York City when I first moved here.  The job came VERY close to killing the magic of this expression for me, and my love of baked goods altogether.  But I ran for the hills, or to teaching kindergartners really, and now I have happily returned to seeking out fantastic bakeries to lighten up my day.

About me:
I’m an actress, and I am in New York City finally embracing it.  Theatre was woven throughout my childhood, and I decided at a young age that this was going to be my career.  Period.  No excuses.  No pressure or anything, thanks childhood self.  Still, this idea keeps me going when each person (and the left side of my brain) tells me that this lifestyle is unsustainable.  Also, I’m 24, recently moved from the middle-of-the-woods New Jersey, and obsessed with cooking.  I don’t know how to do it yet, but I’m hoping the obsession will lead to that.
Since talking about who I am makes me feel odd, here are some random points:
-I would like to own a parrot one day
-I hiked 500 miles across Spain
-I would like to base my life around education, travel, and art.
-I’m terrified of drowning, but I love boats.

-I love swings,  and created an Olympic category for swings my backyard with my sister when I was a kid.

-I’m about 2 years behind each fashion trend, and I love pajama pants.

-And I have no clue how to make this single spaced again.

-I eat about 3 spoonfuls of peanut butter a day.  Plain on a spoon.  Speaking of which…

    • Thanks so much for reading! Beach Body is this new exercise and diet trend that I believe is based around these pre-made shakes by a company called Shakeology. They do seem to be pretty well made, but they go for about $5 a pop. Also, their angle is to pay their members to invite their friends to the program. I’m assuming there is an incentive to signing up a certain amount of people. I am all for any program that makes people feel good about themselves, but the idea that my friends are now approaching me about attaining a “beach body” is not my idea of developing a good body image.

  3. Ginny, thanks for liking my blog post. Like you, I was nervous about putting myself out there, but what the heck. Also, being in another decade from you, the technical side was a bit intimidating, but my 20-something daughter is helping me. Best to you and I look forward to your next blog post.

    • Thanks so much! I really enjoyed your recent post. In early 2010, I spent a good deal of time living at home unexpectedly with essentially no schedule, and it took a long time to figure out structure to my day. But it did come eventually, and more through the little things like reading or going for walks. Thanks for your comment!

  4. Hi Ginny, I continue to enjoy your thought provoking posts. I can really relate to a lot of what you describe in your own life with things that have happened in mind.
I want to invite you to do a three day quote challenge. See my post today http://explorationsinplace.com/2016/02/27/day-one-three-days-of-quotes-from-first-ladies/ for more details. I decided to choose a theme, but you don’t have to. The rules of the challenge are: 1) Thank the person who nominated you; 2) Post a quote each day for three days; and 3) Each day nominate three new bloggers to take part. No pressure, but if you like, give it a go!

    • Thank you so much, I’m so glad it was helpful! My original About Me was much much simpler, it took a lot of time to figure out how to put this into words, and I’m sure it will keep changing. So definitely no rush! Thanks for visiting!
